Replace your overheated factory intercooler with the VRSF 5″ Performance HD & 7.5″ Competition HD Intercooler to get the most out of your N54 or N55. These intercoolers were designed to be one of the best performing, direct bolt on intercoolers available for your BMW with special attention to quality and performance while maintaining a reasonable price. These intercoolers allow for higher HP gains, mainly due to their ability to keep intake temps down while preventing heat soak which is a common problem with the factory intercooler. This results in a more power and increased reliability with reduced chances of pre-detonation & knock.
Intercooler Core
The most important component of any intercooler is the core. The core cools the charged air from the turbo before it enters the engine and the OEM BMW tube and fin intercooler is designed to support low boost levels and air flow. Once boost levels and air flow are increased, the OEM unit is easily overwhelmed and can not keep up with the cooling demands of a tune running more than OEM boost levels. This results in heat soak which will result in a power loss and a higher potential for pre-detonation in the upper RPM range.
We remedy this problem with our custom bar and plate cores which utilizes a staggered and offset high density internal and external fin pack. Our cores have been carefully tuned to provide the the best intake temperature reduction while maintaining minimal pressure drop. Our bar & plate core is also much more durable than the OEM tube and fin core, with a better ability to withstand rocks and other debris.
The VRSF 5″ Performance HD is the best option available for stock turbo N54 and N55’s on the market. The 5″ features a much denser fin pack both internally and externally than comparable options. The stock BMW intercooler rises about 32 degrees during a 3rd gear pull whereas it’s not uncommon to see intake temperatures stay even at the end of a 3rd gear pull with the VRSF 5″ Performance due to the larger overall surface area.
The VRSF 7.5″ Competition HD FMIC utilizes the largest core of any 7″ intercooler available and is the best performing 7″ intercooler in it’s class. More importantly, the proprietary VRSF core offers a much denser, high destiny fin pack both internally and externally which translates to better heat absorption internally as well as heat dissipation externally without compromising airflow. Again, the OEM intercooler rises 32 degrees during a 3rd gear pull whereas it’s not uncommon to see intake temperatures drop at the end of a multiple gear pull due to the Competition HDs larger overall surface area.
Installation
The 7.5″ Competition HD intercooler kit includes everything you’ll need to replace your OEM intercooler with our upgraded kit. Due to the larger over all size of the size of the 7.5″ intercooler, the black plastic shroud does need to be trimmed. Also note that the bumper cover does not require trimming or removal for installation.
The 5″ intercooler kit also includes everything necessary to replace your OEM FMIC (front mount intercooler) with our upgraded kit. This is a bolt on intercooler which means it doesn’t require permanent modification in order to be installed. Also note that removal of the bumper is not required for installation.
Each VRSF intercooler is hand finished and pressure tested to ensure a high quality, leak free experience. Our intercoolers fit both Left Hand Drive (LHD) & Right Hand Drive (RHD) Models as well as all XI models. I installed the VRSF 5” intercooler in my e93, and wish the kit came with longer attachment screws! The stock intercooler screws are too short to accommodate the thicker intercooler frame. With an intercooler that is 4x the weight of the stock one, appropriate support screws should be included with this kit.

Greetings from ‘merica! Gotta love VRSF! Tried and true. Shipping was slightly delayed, but can’t complain about that too much. Shoutout to Joshua Thomas with customer service who reached out to me in short time after I inquired about about the delays. He was super helpful in explaining the situation to me and answering my questions. Can’t ask for me than that.
Quality of the intercooler is 10/10. Arrived safe n sound with no damage during shipping. Packed well in thick styrofoam with all fittings and hardware included. Hose clamps are metric and tighten up with ease! Maybe there are better ways to do this, but for me as a novice DIY mechanic it went as follows: I used an 11m socket for install w/ a Milwaukee ratchet, a phillips-head impact bit (or screwdriver) for the mounting points, and you’ll want a bit of silicone spray to lubricate the hoses prior to install. I recommend installing the smaller hose on the intercooler prior to install, and the larger charge pipe directly to the car to receive the intercooler. You will have to cut the bands securing the stock hoses for the intercooler with a rotary tool and small cutting wheel attachment. It is probably the sketchiest part of the job, but only takes a few minutes if you’re precise. .The intercooler is much heavier than the stock cooler, so be prepared to muscle it up or have a small hydraulic jack/support to hold the intercooler in place for screw mounting. I used my rotary tool to cut away a bit of plastic in the inside of the bumper due to the tight space.. Perhaps this doesn’t need to be done, but it seemed inevitable..

The VRSF intercooler is a great modification for your N54/55 car. However, it is extremely difficult to install and professional installation is highly recommended. The silicon boots are difficult to get on the intercooler itself, and removing and installing the new charge pipe is tricky.
You have to cut a factory band on the outlet side as well. Videos make the install look easy, however it’s not.
Again, as far as the product itself goes, 10/10. Only reason it’s a 4 star review instead of 5 is the website makes it seem very simple to install.

Little more than trimming but it’s great. My only complaint has been with their customer service. When I received this part it had some damage to the fins that o had to come thru. Bad enough that the silver paint had chipped off and tore the fins in a few spots. Possibly from shipping. However their response time and concern for this has been horrible. Again, great parts so far, just don’t expect much help if you have any problems.

The VSFR 5″ FMIC took about 2.5 hours for me & my dad to install. Everything fit perfectly. Didn’t have to cut anything or remove the front bumper. Make sure you are careful removing the old fasteners as one of mine stripped and was barely able to remove it, so take your time. The FMIC is a quality product that I highly recommend. BTW after installing you can really hear the turbos spool as you press the accelerator. The car is getting more air flow now and can tell the difference in performance. Easy install, having a cutting tool is really helpful when removing the stock clamps on the outlets, I would recommend having a friend help you out hold things into place while you bolt up the intercooler. Decided to buy the 5″ for my n54 335i and had a much harder time with the install than I expected. First, the intercooler is heavier than the stock one so it was awkward to install using the jack. Second, the fit was definitely not “plug and play”…we had to trim the stock intercooler housing and we had to trim the belly pan to get it to fit properly. Finally, it was really tough with the limited space to get the pipes connected to the intercooler…particularly on the driver’s side. However, once we finally installed it, it works great and looks great!

Box looked rough on arrival, had to cut the driver side coupler as it was touching the power steering pump and belt (e92), and couldn’t use the washers as the bolts are too short… ok on to the good stuff iat’s are awesome after testing in 50f weather it were 64f. And I was able to put MHD stage 2+ on and it held 18.6 lbs of boost. So couldn’t be happier. Oh and shipping was super fast and didn’t use the excuse of Covid to be lazy. My car is still stock boost levels, (335is) but I am doing all supporting mods before jumping on the JB4/MHD BEF train. The first thing I wanted to get done was the Intercooler, the main reason being when it is 100F here, when you attempt to do a 2nd pull, it heat soaks and you can feel the lack of power. After installing the VRSF Intercooler, I have been able to do several pulls without even a hint of heat soak. I still have no way of logging the temperatures, so I cannot provide numbers, but in practice this is great, and once tuned I can experience the full benefits.

This is my first time using a VRSF product and I couldn’t be happier. I installed the 7.5″ kit on a 135i which does take a lot of cutting and a few mockups but the big intercooler is definitely worth it. Before i purchased this intercooler I always thought the car felt slow up top, especially during highway pulls. They don’t advertise making “HP” from this, but if you’re doing more than a one gear pull you notice a BIG difference in power! These cars heat up fast especially with a tune, and this allows you to access your power for longer than a single pull. A note that I don’t see mentioned a lot: I had to cut both the radiator shroud and the backside of the grill on the bumper to get this to fit. The bumper cuts are easy though and becuase of the added depth of the 7.5″ vs a shallower intercooler, you get to see the intercooler more (it’s closer to the grill so stands out more). Also, shipping was fast! I received a tracking number with 24h of placing my order and had it within 2 days. I’m a big fan of VRSF!

Decided to get the 7 inch HD but kinda wish I got the stepped intercooler. The 7 HD is really good for the money, I’m getting much more stable intake temps and the car pulls more consistently. Install was easier than I was making it at first, just cut out the whole lower radiator shroud instead of trimming to fit and the IC fits right in, kinda heavy though but worth it. Kinda wish I got the stepped only because there’s hardly half of the IC showing over the bumper and I get intake temps no better then factory intercooler during normal driving unless I’m on the highway or WOT.

Pulls extremely consistent
I just installed the VRSF 7″ HD coupled with mhd stage 2+ and the car pulls extremely consistent. Previously I was FBO minus the IC and outlets with stage 2. After a couple of pulls, I could feel the IC heatsoak effects.

Just like with their downpipes and other products, the build quality and fitment is equal to parts costing twice as much, but at the cheapest price you’ll find without resorting to horrible quality eBay knockoffs. I ordered the 7″ street intercooler, and to say I’m impressed with the new fin density is a drastic understatement. The fin density is superior to any other N54 FMIC offering out there right now and the 7″ street core doesn’t suffer from a HP-robbing pressure drop without needing to run crazy amounts of boost on a single Turbo setup. The welds and finish on it are excellent too, I honestly can hardly believe the bang for your buck that VRSF offers on these. Tiago is also excellent with his customer service, I had emailed him before ordering to ensure that I would receive one of the new intercoolers with the high fin density and he replied within a matter of hours, and after placing my order online he personally emailed me again confirming shipment and thanking me for shopping with him. Overall I couldn’t be more happy with my order or the product.

The AIT cooling is ridiculous
I am completely satisfied with my 7″ VRSF HD intercooler. The AIT cooling is ridiculous. My car gets below a few degrees of ambient temperature on pulls. The cutting is not an issue. However on my coupe I had to remove the bumper to do it. On my friends sedan u can do it with the bumper on.

Best Front Mount on the Market
I had ordered the VRSF 7″ HD Intercooler and was ecstatic when it had arrived. The welds were beautiful, fins looked great, and install was very simple. Obviously some cutting was needed, but when you go that large of a Front Mount it’ll never be a direct fit. Other than the cutting of the shroud it slipped right in.

7″ Street FMIC is a Beast
I’ve only spent a little time with the FMIC but so far it seems to be doing a great job. Crusing on the highway on a 80+ degree day, the IATs are only about 10 to 12 degrees above ambient. I did a few 3rd gear pulls and the IATs only rise a degree or two. It’s a great upgrade over the stock FMIC.

I went with the 7” HD FMIC and it fits perfectly. I also have their CP and all the hoses and clamps matched up perfectly upon installation. My iats are under control now and I feel much more comfortable pushing 21lbs of boost. I know their are faster cars out their than mine, but with this FMIC upgrade I feel like I am running the same times every time. The consistency is key for me. The install was easy. I did a lot of research on diy installs before I attempted to do it myself. It took just under 3hrs and that included me having to pick up a buddy who needed a ride in the middle of the install (I took a different car). Everything included with this product is high quality and feels like it will last. I’m extremely happy with this purchase.

Ok, pretty much anyone reading this will have looked at the options out there. Price, this one fits securely in the middle. Quality, this one is on top. In addition, you get the bonus of this company’s incredible customer service, free shipping, and support after the sale. I don’t know what more you could ask for. Not all charge pipes are created equal. With the design of our throttle bodies, the tolerances that this part is manufactured against is key. I spent dozens of hours researching what I was going to be buying for my car. I am thrilled with the decision I made. My factory charge pipe blew apart at about 11psi so I pulled the trigger and ordered this and their down pipes. After installation, I ordered the 7″ hd intercooler. With the limited options for performance mods for the E60 the only choices are the VRSF intercooler and the ER Intercooler which costs double ! Pulled the trigger and ordered the VRSF 7″ FMIC.
Installation was easy ! It required minor trimming for it to fit into the bracket where the oem intercooler was held and a few inches off the fan shroud. An additional 5 inch aluminum joiner and 45 degree elbow were required to make the hot side ( passenger side ) reach to the outlet . Everything else was straight forward .
My E60 runs much cooler now and the logs are looking much better ( AITs ) . Pull after pull the car still feels strong compared to the stock intercooler where it would feel underpowered after pulls .
A must have for a tuned E60 .

The almighty #N54 has been on the up and up as an amazing engine, due to this there has been a lot of competition on the platform on regards to the basic boltons. For myself, the intercooler was the last step of the Full Bolton (FBO) process for myself.
It was the last because it was the most difficult because there were so many options as it was not impacted by me being an XI. I considered eBay brands as well as stett and Cobb, however I could never pull the trigger. One night I finally came to the decision to make VRSF my intercooler of choice. Since then I have not looked back and have dramatically improved my iat’s.
“I live my life a 1/4 mile at a time” in the great words of Dom and noticed that my iats dropped atleast 30 degrees on back to back runs. With the VRSF intercooler among other things I was able to successfully hit 11s on e30.

With this intercooler, I can tell a difference in performance in that the engine is running much cooler as these engines run hot from the factory. Coupled with the fact that my car is FBO including methanol, it is an absolute beast and a blast to drive. Keep up the great work!

I installed the 7″ VRSF FMIC myself (lots of trimming required to fit, used a dremel) and I had the VRSF DP professionally installed (it’s a pain, gotta remove the engine mounts on a X drive model and secure the engine so it doesn’t drop to the floor) last summer and I’m super happy with the final result.

VRSF Intercooler was well worth it!
Well guys, while I was on Vacation in Europe at 3am at night hanging out sea side with my lady friend I had this awesome idea of ordering car parts lol and let’s just say the VRSF Intercooler was well worth it! My brother received the package back in the states and calls me and says WOW this is well packed I’m surprised and the intercooler looked in awesome shape (even the box had no rips tears or anything like someone had “issues” with their order)
When installing the intercooler I had my friends dad help me just in case I mess up (he works for BMW International in Milwaukee) I had to obviously trim a little but I made it harder for my self by not taking the front bumper off while we had it on the lift
Alignment was perfect and right on but had to trim the passenger hose just a little because the intercooler would align straight and was cutting off air because it was bent.
When I finished first time took it for a spin around the block and let me tell you from “butt dyno” car felt way better and powerful (3rd gear for example at high rpm is outrageous and more “alive”)
BECAREFUL BECAREFUL when installing to not cut the Ambient Temp Sensor because I accidentally did and just changed it (5 bucks from eBay OEM)
I wish I logged the car with the MHD tune but forgot about it cause I was in a hurry to install the intercooler and some other stuff I ordered for it.

A very solid, and well built intercooler. Weld spots are very clean and tight. Aside from not coming with any instructions on how to install it, I would have given it 5 stars. Having to figure out exactly what to modify to get this installed was my only issue.

Great New Intercooler option
My car has active cruise, so it was very important for my needs that I find an intercooler option that required no modification to stock bumper and still maximized core size with available space. The new 5″ stepped core fit the bill. Very easy to install too.
Performance is stellar. Even in 90+ temps in back to back dyno pulls, iat only creeped up. At cruising speeds, iat is 5*-10* cooler than stock, and at the end of multi gear pulls, the delta between stock performance is night and day @ 40* cooler intake charge!

Let’s start off by saying that I couldn’t be any happier with Tiago and the products with an extremely fast shipping time!
Recently installed the VRSF 7″ FMIC & 3″ Cat-less DP. First of all customer support from Tiago is simply greatness. Had a local shop in ATL install my DP and vehicle was in and out of the bay in hour and half, as the tech mention it was a breeze to install with simply zero issues, and holly crap did I pick up some seat of the pants TQ .
That same night in my garage I replace my 6″ AA IC with the VRSF 7″ and since the trimming was already done it was really a little over hour to install and make sure all was well and tight with a more Aggressive look from the front grill and also the couplers and clamps provided by VRSF are by far superior.
As for cooling the bigger 7″ comes on top ( obviously is a bigger 7″ IC ) specially during long high speed pulls confirming what TIAGO had stated. What I really like about the vrsf is how quick the IAT comes down after the vehicle is rolling from being stopped in traffic .
All in all I am a happy camper and extremely happy with the switch .

It can’t be beat!
For the money, it can’t be beat. It comes with all gaskets, hardware, has a polished finish, and fits perfectly which makes installation a breeze.
With DPs, you also reap the benefits of a throatier exhaust note. Scaled, I would rate it a notch up from stock which is perfect for someone wanting a tab bit more without it being obvious to others.
Once you’ve had your fun with the DPs, look into getting an intercooler. I purchased the VRSF 7″ intercooler and it rocked just like the DPs. IAT with the stock IC increase on average about 40 degress from 3rd to mid 4th gear. With the VRSF IC, average IAT were 18 degrees. I was also able to maintain target boost levels on the OpenFlash Tablet which I couldn’t do with the stock IC. It was always 1psi lower throught the power band.

I just installed the VRSF 7″ as well. I’m very happy. Previously my intake temp rose from 120 – 152 degrees in one third gear pull.
I just logged after the install and my IAT only rose from 98 – 105 degrees!
Unbelievable! The second pull only rose from 100 – 105 degrees.
A Five degree rise versus a 32 degrees rise in one gear. I’ll take that reduced heat soak!
The car continues to pull up top now whereas before, the quickly rising IATs were causing power loss.

I’ve been running mine for 4 months or so and love it. Only issue is it doesn’t get fully exposed to airflow with my current E90 Pre-LCI front bumper. M3 rep should remedy that though.

My 7″ VRSF FMIC went in yesterday without a hitch, my mechanic said that the trimming was fairly modest, and fitment was very good. Id agree with whats been said, the power gains aren’t apparent until 4-5k revs, but the engine feels much smoother and repeated pulls felt very strong on the butt dyno. For the price VRSF cant be beat.

VRSF components have delivered, and the performance increase has been FANTASTIC.
I just had my VRSF 7″ FMIC and DPs installed, and it was basically a non-event. They went in easily, no real issues. My mechanic said it was just like pretty much any other DP/FMIC (and he’s done plenty), the DPs fit well and he only had to trim a little bit of the shroud for the FMIC and it’s very securely mounted. We had to adjust DPs once after road testing showed it was hitting subframe a tiny bit and causing massive vibrations in the cabin at low speeds, otherwise as plug and play as this stuff gets. Also dropped in the BMS DP Fix and that seems to be working great, but a few more miles are needed before I’m sure it won’t pop codes.
WOT produced HUGE grins, the car feels very close to my old JB4/Meth setup, as expected from FBO. The throatier sound under heavy acceleration is great, as is stock-like sound under less than WOT.
I’m not into having any compromises on my car, as it not only has me driving around aggressively, but I also carry kids to school and ferry customers to lunch and my wife even drives it. I can’t have odd noises, rattles, or reliability issues. So far, the VRSF components have delivered, and the performance increase has been FANTASTIC.
