Replace your inefficient factory intercooler with a VRSF upgraded intercooler kit to get the most out of your N20, N26 & N55 BMW. Our intercoolers are designed to be the best performing, direct bolt on intercoolers available for your BMW with special attention to quality and performance while maintaining a reasonable price. Each VRSF intercooler includes our proprietary High Density fin pack which results in higher HP gains compared to the other guys, mainly due to our incredibly dense internal and external fin pack. Our core was engineered to offer a greater overall surface area for increased heat absorption as well as dissipation.
VRSF HD Intercooler Core
The most important component of any intercooler is the core. The core cools the charged air from the turbo before it enters the engine and the OEM BMW tube and fin intercooler is designed to support low boost levels and air flow. When tuned, airflow and boost levels are increased significantly. This causes the OEM intercooler to heat soak and reduces HP and increases the chance of pre-detonation.
We remedy this problem with our proprietary, high density bar and plate intercooler core which utilizes a staggered and offset internal and external fin pack. The VRSF HD core has been carefully balanced to provide the the best intake temperature reduction while maintaining minimal pressure drop. The VRSF HD core is also much more durable than the OEM tube and fin core, with a better ability to withstand rocks and other debris.
The VRSF 5″ Performance HD & 6.5″ Competition HD Intercoolers are comprised of an incredibly dense fin pack both internally and externally. It’s not uncommon to see intake temperatures drop at the end of a 3rd gear pull due to the larger overall internal and external surface area. You can expect to see an intake temperature reduction on a stock turbo, full bolt on car during a 3rd gear pull which is why the VRSF HD is THE best option for your N55. Please note that the HD fin pack is now standard at no extra charge! The VRSF 5″ Performance HD is capable of supporting up to 600whp whereas the 6.5″ Competition HD is capable of supporting up to 800whp.
Installation & Construction
We include everything required to replace the OEM intercooler. All VRSF intercoolers feature tabs that allow the retention of the factory fan shroud and our CFD optimized cast end tanks are designed to work with both the OEM intercooler piping as well as any aftermarket charge pipe that adapts to the OEM FMIC. After each intercooler is pressure tested, we then apply a thermal dispersant coating which ensure a leak free experience along with superior protection against the elements. Our intercoolers fit both Left Hand Drive (LHD) & Right Hand Drive (RHD) Models as well as all XI models.

Can do multiple pulls without performance drops.
Installation takes some patience if you are not running a stock charge pipe and outlet pipe. I have this paired with the VRSF Charge and outlet pipe. You will have to adjust the lengths of the pipes to have them mate with the inter cooler(thats why they come in 3 pieces so they can be adjusted telescopically). Connecting the turbo outlet it a breeze. Connecting the charge pipe takes some patience and would recommend a 2nd person for the job.
The end result is a great inter cooler that dwarfs the stock one and has great performance results.

The installation was straight forward and done exactly as shown on many youtube diys.
The intercooler is nicely welded.
For my M135i 2017 the brackets at the bottow to mount the fan shroud were slightly too wide. With a simple rework and removal of 5 mm on both sides the fan shroud fitted perfectly.
At my first test run I heard a whistle noise which came up when boost was produced. That dissapeared after a long ride and proper warm up. I concluded that it must have been some settling of the connections / seals.
The charge pipe was already replaced by a VRSF version but the boost pipe is original. The latter appeared to be a little loose as shown in one of the comments of a youtuber but this had no impact on the seal apparently.

My stock intercooler was heat soaking on pulls from 120 to 150 F from data logging. After installing the VRSF 5″ for my 2012 328i, IAT’s were below 120, even on hard pulls, it went down flawlessly. At first I thought it would be a nice upgrade to do so I bought this product so I can tune my car to MHD Stage2+. But after installing this Intercooler I thought it would be fun to just ride for a week and see if there is any difference.
I can tell you there definitely is. At lower rpm’s I can feel the difference. My @335i_touring F31 is currently at stage 2 and 400 HP. Especially in comfort mode you can feel the difference. I am curious about my stage 2+ tune over a week and the measurements on the bench.
The installation was very easy. I had it on a bridge and you can install the Intercooler without disassembly the front bumper. For the installation you need to place a huge intercooler where first was a very small one. So please ask for a extra pair of hands as the intercooler is kind of heavy either.
Overall score is very high, I would definitely buy this intercooler again.

Good job for IAT’s.
I have a 5″ HD intercooler and BM3 stage 2 tune. My IAT’s started at around 103 deg F and dropped to 93 deg f for the duration of my 3rd and 4th pull. I did a few pulls that day when i was playing around with logging and the IAT’s were repeatable. Im just getting into cars so dont have to much to comment but i have had no issues with my FMIC and it seems to do a good job for IAT’s with the stage 2 tune.

Great product
After some stop and go traffic I’m usually about 15*-20* above ambient. This is just normal driving (no WOT pulls or anything).
If I quickly jump on the freeway after starting the car it’s not unusual to see only a 5*-10* difference above ambient.
With my stock IC it would basically double those #’s.
For a WOT pull with my current IC I usually only see an increase of about 20* over starting IAT. Multiple back to back pulls (4+ pulls) get me about 30* above the IAT starting point. FYI these are logging pulls (2.5k to redline). What’s cool (pun) is that with my IC you will actually see the IATs drop about 5* for the first 2000 rpm of a full pull
You can easily double those #’s on stock IC after a sigle WOT pull. As my buddy in his M2 did. It was bad to the point he had to stop doing the runs.
For a FBO car with a tune an IC makes a huge difference in keeping IAT down and from bad timing issues after a few runs.
I recommend doing the CP at the sometime.
